Some free advice, when considering purchasing new desks
Safety Cable Management - Importantly, does the desk included components which ensure the user and their chair do not come into contact with cables in or leading to the desk? Without it safety is compromised.
​
Compatibility - On some cheaper desks, you may find support bars running horizontally under the worktop. These can interfere with some users knees or thighs and be restrictive.
​
Warranty - How long is the desk guaranteed for and what's included? The minimum structural warranty of a desk should ideally be around 10 years.
​
Futureproofing & Continuity - Is the desks design futureproofed in finish and looks and does the manufacturer have a continuity programme in place for the desk range and its finishes? If additional desks need to be added in the future you will probably want them to match.

Adaptability - All working environments change from time to time for a host of reasons. Ideally the desk frame should consist of a universal set of shared components that can be purchased individually when changes need to addressed. Ideally the desk frame will be adjustable in width too. Buying new desk tops is far less expensive than buying whole new desks.
Environmental - What its made from, where has it come from and what will happen to it? Ask to see documented evidence to prove that your considered purchase has been sustainably produced and designed to be recycled. How is it packaged? The desk components need to be transport wrapped so the packaging should be recyclable too.

Sit Stand - Do you need to included a matching element of sit-stand desks? If you don't today the likelihood is that you will in the future, as workplace knowledge and trends evolve, so should be given serious consideration.
​
Budget - This should be set after you have explored the options with the experts. Purchasing sustainable ergonomic desks and equipment should be an investment not simply a cost. Making uninformed choices can be very costly!

Existing Furniture - From a CSR perspective, what will become of your old workplace furniture? Look for a supplier with a connection to a certified organisation who can remove and redistribute redundant office furniture to charitable causes globally, saving disposal costs and reducing environmental impact.
